same reason the younger ones have purple, green ,or orange a fashion statement! plus we're trying to find ourselves!...in all honesty its a rinse with a blue base to take the yellow out of gray hair and sometimes its overdone or the hair absorbs to much!

Blue takes away yellow, just like putting blueing into your laundry. Sometimes the blueing is overdone and shows as blue. The intention was to make the hair snow white.

Because their hair is white, the stuff they use is supposed to make the white hair to look better, but it turns blue instead (probably put it in too much). It is not done on purpose though.
